Pictures of the swaps

Hi,

I find myself always struggling to choose which picture to choose when uploading swap pictures:

  • envelop: I usually decorate both sides but I can only choose one currently
  • swap: currently I can only upload two pictures, front and back. Why the limitation? Usually we send more than one item, I guess some people take picture of them, but I personally scan everything so unless I upload an heavy PDF (I'm not even sure its possible) :p or else I'm left with not including most of my swap.
  • I feel slightly disapointed that the pictures are only for me to see. I would love if it were the same as in postcrossing: you can upload a picture (or here more) of your exchange and it is shown publicly. For anyone to see, and anyone to like? I guess this would only be possible if the exchange were shared publicly like on postcrossing but it is not the case currently. I feel that the swap and the art are a bit disconnected at the moment. I simply wanted to share an idea - sorry for the rant lol.

Thanks for listening,
Emilie

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! 💕

The images in the swap tracker are mainly meant for your own records, so you can easily look back at what you’ve sent a member (and in the past).

The current image limit helps keep uploads quick for marking as shipped, but I understand that sometimes two pictures just aren’t enough, especially for more detailed swaps. How many images would you usually need to show your full swap for your record keeping?

I understand your feelings about the art feeling a bit disconnected (especially on mobile devices). Snail Mail Friends currently shows only six images here, unlike other platforms. What would be your preference? We could certainly consider adding more if pageloads permit this.

The Art Gallery and profile stories are great places to share your creations if you’d like to show more of your sent or received swaps. And the Art Gallery images also appear randomly in a carousel on other members’ dashboard 🤗

Adding more photos for record keeping is definitely something we can look into. For security reasons, PDF uploads won’t be considered, as they can pose security risks.

💬 We’d love to hear from others too, do you find two pictures enough (plus the proof of sending) for record keeping, or would you prefer more? Your feedback really helps us see what might be possible for the future.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply. I would say 3 pictures + the proof of sending + 2 pictures for the envelop would cover it all.
But again the main idea for me when I upload these pictures is to share them with the community.

Just brainstorming here :) maybe we could add a checkbox under the file upload to automatically show the pictures in the Art galery once the swap is marked as received? It would both allow to not duplicate images and storage, as well as making it easier to share our art pieces?

Just an idea of course.

P.S.: Thank you for taking the time to reply to all my comments and feedback. If I propose ideas here it is because I really like this website and this community; and I want to try to make it easier of use/simplier or more intuitive. It comes all from a positive mindset, a will to share, and I hope I am not bothering you.
