Paper Trimmer vs. Guillotine

When cutting paper, there are two main options: paper trimmers and guillotines. Each has its benefits and drawbacks, and your choice will depend on your specific needs and preferences.

First, consider the size of the paper you need to cut, the thickness of the paper, and the precision of the cut you need. You should also think about the amount of paper you need to cut at one time. These factors will help determine whether a paper trimmer or a guillotine is best for you.

Another important factor to consider is safety. If you use the tool frequently, or if children use it, safety features become even more important. Paper trimmers are generally safer, as they have a smaller blade and a lower risk of injury. On the other hand, guillotines have larger, heavier blades that pose a greater risk of injury if misused.

When it comes to accuracy, paper trimmers typically offer more precise cuts. They often feature a straight edge or a rotary blade that can be guided along a ruler or grid, making it easier to get a precise cut. Guillotines may produce less accurate cuts due to the weight and momentum of the blade.

Size is another factor to consider. Paper trimmers are generally smaller and more portable, making them ideal for on-the-go projects or those with limited space. On the other hand, guillotines are typically larger and require more space.

Ease of use is another important factor. Paper trimmers are often easier to use, as they usually have a simple blade mechanism and can be easily guided along a ruler or grid. Guillotines may require more physical effort and difficulty accurately guiding the paper under the blade.

In conclusion, your best choice between a paper trimmer and a guillotine will depend on your specific needs and preferences. A paper trimmer may be better if you need precise, accurate cuts, value portability, and ease of use. A guillotine may be the better choice if you have large quantities of paper to cut and are willing to trade accuracy for speed.

I recently got rid of my fiskars paper trimmer.  The blades dull so quickly that it isn't worth my time, money, or effort.  I even tried the titanium blades to no avail.

I went back to my cutterpede.

My favorite trimmer is a small Tonic trimmer and although it has seen better days, it still cuts perfectly 🥰
